Fitting on the screen everything you need to see:

If it looks like your screen is not large enough to display an entire graph and the text, the resolution setting for your monitor may need to be adjusted to 800 x 600 pixels. At the 640 x 480 resolution, it is likely that some text may appear to "fall off" the right of your screen, or the lower part of some graphs may seem to fall out of view below your screen. This can be remedied by adjusting the resolution of your monitor display to 800 x 600 pixels.

Take these steps to adjust your monitor resolution if necessary:

There is one more thing you can do to increase still further the viewing area on your screen. You can minimize the toolbars above and the taskbars below your screen.

At 800 X 600 resolution, a graph and the text will appear to be about 20% smaller than at 640 X 480. Everything you need to see in a graph can be viewed within the bounds of the screen on your monitor – especially when there are two graphs stacked one over the other and the toolbars and taskbar are minimized.

The Exploration button and working with graphs:

Active graphs require user participation. When you select a graph, the "Objectives" of the graph will be displayed. After reading these, you will be instructed to click on "Exploration" from among the buttons at the top of the screen.

In the Exploration section you will:

Moving or shifting a line or curve, or grabbing and moving a dot

When you read, "...shift the demand curve..." or "...grab the green dot and move it...," you should be ready to use your mouse. Move your cursor to the line or dot you need to move, press one of the mouse buttons, and hold it pressed while moving the cursor. As you move the mouse, you will see the line or dot in the graph move according to the movement of your cursor. When you have moved it to where specified, release the mouse button. (And you will no longer control the movement of the line or dot.)

Getting answers to questions – the "?" buttons:

Within the "Exploration" section, there are questions based on the concepts and the related information represented in the graphs. To get the answer to or discussion of a question, click on its "?" – the blue question mark symbol. The answer or discussion will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

Resetting the graphs – the R button:

Most active graphs on this CD-ROM can be reset by clicking the "R" button. This button is located beneath the graphs on the left. By resetting the graphs, any changes you may have made will be lost, and the graph will return to the way it originally appeared. (It's like "returning to square one" so you start over again.)

Navigating between pages – the Previous, Next, and List buttons:

To navigate between pages, click the "Previous" or "Next" buttons at top of the graph's screen.

To return to the list of all available graphs, click on the "List" button at top of the graph's screen. From this list, you can access any of the 48 graphs by clicking the graph or icon located next to the graph.
